Elk Habitat Technician – Idaho
Position Summary: The Clearwater Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. on behalf of the Clearwater Basin Collaborative project and in cooperation with Idaho Department of Fish and Game, is seeking a technician to assist a graduate student conducting elk vegetation surveys in the Clearwater Basin of north-central Idaho. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: (1) measuring abundance (biomass) of forage by plant species using double sampling procedures that include sampling of plant canopy cover and clipping plants; (2) measuring forest overstory characteristics using standard vegetative sampling techniques, (3) collecting forage species selected by elk for nutrient analysis, (4) drying and weighing clipped vegetation, and (5) similar duties as assigned.
Compensation and Work Schedule: The pay rate for this position is $12.50 per hour. An additional $100 (maximum) per week food stipend will be provided when deployed into the field. Vehicles and housing (cabin near Lewiston or camping in remote locations) will be provided. Expected working schedule (days on versus days off and hours/day) will vary depending on remoteness of sampling location and as such, technicians need to be flexible regarding schedules.
