Youth Conservation Corps Crew Support and Cook
Position Summary: The Clearwater Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council, Inc., on behalf of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests’ 2018 Kelly Forks Residential Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Program, is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to provide support to a YCC crew, as described in the attached RFQQ.
Program Overview: The 2018 Kelly Forks YCC program is a residential, work-based conservation and education program for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 18, designed to develop an awareness and understanding of the nation’s natural resources and heritage. The Forest Service recruits youth from around the country and from all social, economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds for the program.
The YCC crew will be based out of the Kelly Forks Work Center on the North Fork Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. This unique place is located in north-central Idaho, where the crew will work together with a Forest Service crew leader and other staff to complete conservation projects. These projects may include trail maintenance and construction, campground maintenance, landscape restoration, resource management, visitor support services, and more. While many projects will be based close to the station, some might involve backcountry camping.
Youth will work 40 hours per week, and remain on-site through the duration of the four-week program. Additionally, the youth will have the opportunity to participate in evening and weekend recreational activities such as hiking, rafting, fishing in blue-ribbon trout streams, trips exploring the local area, and discovering the many options for careers in the Forest Service and other land management agencies.
Project Location: Kelly Forks Work Center is located 25 miles north of Pierce, Idaho, and resides at the confluence of Kelly Creek and the North Fork of the Clearwater River. The center functions as lodging for Forest Service staff and seasonal Job Corps youth, and is the spring-board to reach some of the remote areas on the North Fork Ranger District.
Performance Period: The 2018 Kelly Forks YCC program will take place from July 8 – August 4, 2018. The term of the service will begin upon selection of the contractor and end on August 18, 2018.
Scope of Work: The contractor will be responsible for meal preparation and night shift supervision of the crew. Please download the RFQQ for the complete scope of work.
Housing: The YCC crew and contractor will be required to live on location at the work center. Room and board will be provided.
Submission Process: Please download the RFQQ for the submission requirements. To be considered, a completed quotation form and accompanying qualification information must be submitted via email no later than 5:00 p.m. PST June 22, 2018.
